North American UL EPD Certification
the Environmental Protection Department is a comprehensive and international report prepared by product manufacturers to document the environmental impact of products during their life cycle.
UL certifies that all information in the manufacturer's completed epd is accurate.
North American UL EPD Certification
the ul environment develops epds that conform to the iso 14025 international organization for standardization in five steps.
1. Find a suitable product category rule (pcr).
the first step in creating an epd is to find or create a pcr for a specific product category. Pcrs provides calculation and reporting requirements for creating life cycle assessments (lcas) and epds. Please click here to learn more about ul's pcr library.
2. Conduct and validate product LCA.
the LCA is a comprehensive report documenting the cradle-to-grave impact of a product. Once an lca has been performed on a particular product, it must be verified by an independent party to ensure that it meets the requirements defined in the pcr, iso 14040 and iso 14044.
3. Establishment of the Environmental Protection Department.
the EPD will present the results of the life cycle assessment, as well as additional information on product performance and other sustainable development attributes.
4. Check with the Environmental Protection Department.
the findings of the study submitted by the environmental protection department will be thoroughly reviewed and verified by an independent third party. Register with EPD.
5. Ul registers and releases EPA information to its repository.
Epd is usually valid for five years.
North American UL EPD Certification Advantage
ulcertified epds demonstrate a manufacturer's commitment to sustainability, but also a willingness to go above and beyond-all in the name of transparency and clarity.
they also help buyers better understand a product's sustainability and environmental impact. Certified epds therefore provides manufacturers with a valuable tool for differentiation and enables customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.
