What is the difference between UL2809 and GRS certification?

SRF 2024-10-11 16:19

UL2809:

the third-party verification of the pre-consumer recycled material content, post-consumer recycled material content, closed-loop recycled material content, total recycled material content and marine recycled plastic content in the product is to prove that the product is as environmentally friendly as claimed. Through according UL 2809 Environmental Claims Verification Procedure for Recycled Content (ECVP) evaluates recycled content, UL can evaluate the recycled content of your products, including:

Pre-consumer Material (Post-industial) Pre-consumer recycled materials

Post-consumer Material post-consumer recycled materials

Close Loop System Recycling Materials:

Ocean Plastics Marine Plastics

Ocean-Bound Plastics Seas Plastic

ITE derived post-consumer recycled plastic recycled plastic materials derived from IT and telecommunications equipment

GRS:

the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) is a voluntary, international, and complete product standard for supply chain vendors on product recovery, chain of custody control, recycled content, social responsibility and environmental regulations, and enforcement of chemical restrictions, certified by Textile Exchange authorized third-party certification bodies. The purpose of GRS certification is to ensure that the statements on the relevant products are correct, and to ensure that the products are produced in a good working environment and minimize the impact on the environment and chemical effects.. GRS certification is to meet the requirements of enterprises to verify the product recycling ingredients (including pre-consumer recycling ingredients and post-consumer recycling ingredients), and to verify the social responsibility, environmental norms and chemical use related operations.

What are the areas for UL2809 and GRS certification?

1, the product regeneration ingredient content requirements are different, GRS certification requires the product to have a recycled content of 20%, while UL2809 does not require it;

2. The authentication method is different. The current ownership of GRS authentication is Textile Exchange, while the Textile Exchange itself is not authenticated. GRS authentication is authenticated Textile a Exchange authorized third-party organization. UL2809 is UL's recycling certification standard currently only UL can be certified.

3. The recycling content is different. UL2809 can certify the pre-consumer and post-consumer recycling of products, closed-loop recycling, marine plastics, sea plastics, IT telecommunications recycled plastics, etc. GRS can only certify products for pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled materials.

4. After GRS authentication occurs, each order needs to be issued with a TC trading certificate, UL2809 no TC certificate is required.
