Introduction to OBP Certification
A team of different individuals, united by a common goal, to strive to see clean oceans. The organization, which works to protect our oceans from plastic waste pollution, ensures that ocean boundary plastic (OBP) is properly collected and managed before being discharged into rivers and oceans. This organization is the Zero Plastic Oceans Organization (ZPO). ZPO invited CU Peterson to develop OBP standards, including OBP collection organization standards, OBP regeneration organization standards, OBP neutralization service provider standards, OBP plastic production and user standards.
OBP basic logic: the first is to collect or clean up waste, and then to stabilize prices and recycle. Only when good collection creates a sufficient amount of necessary circulation can downstream recycling and manufacturing projects be feasible.
What is Marine Plastics Certification?
Marine plastic refers to plastic waste that is discarded in a certain area, which has a high probability of entering the ocean through rivers or directly into the ocean. Waste plastic discarded near streams, rivers or coastlines is considered marine plastic.
Zero Plastic Oceans classifies ocean plastics into four different categories:
1. River OBP
uncollected plastic discarded within 650 feet (200 meters) of a river or within a river
2. Coastline OBP
discarded and uncollected plastic within 650 feet (200 meters) of the shoreline
plastic discarded but not collected within 50km of coastline
4. Fisheries OBP
improperly disposed abandoned fishery waste and nets
