SRF 2024-10-14 15:00

UL 506, 14th Edition, June 2, 2017-UL Standard for Safety Specialty Transformers

These requirements cover ignition transformers for gas burners and oil burners and special step-up transformers for applications such as insect electrocution. These requirements also cover transformers containing over-current or over-temperature protection devices, transient voltage surge protectors or power factor correction capacitors. The use of these transformers complies with National Electrical Code NFPA 70.

These requirements do not include liquid-immersed transformers, variable voltage autotransformers, transformers with a rated primary voltage exceeding 600 volts, transformers with overvoltage taps with a rated voltage exceeding 660 volts, power cord and plug connection transformers, garden light transformers, Voltage regulators, swimming pool and spa transformers, or other special types of transformers covered by other electrical equipment or appliance requirements.

These requirements do not include:

a) The autotransformer used in industrial control equipment is evaluated according to the UL 508 of the industrial control equipment standard.

B) Class 2 or Class 3 transformers are evaluated according to the Standard for Low Voltage Transformers-Part 1: General Requirements, UL 5085-1 and Standard for Low Voltage Transformers-Part 3: Class 2 and Class 3 Transformers, UL 5085-3.

c) Toy transformers, evaluated according to UL 697, Toy Transformer Standard.

d) Transformers for use in radio and television equipment, evaluated in accordance with the Standard for Transformers and Motor Transformers, UL 1411 for Audio, Radio and Television Electrical Appliances.

e) Transformers for high-intensity discharge lamps, evaluated according to the standard UL 1029 for high-intensity discharge lamp ballasts.

f) Transformers used with fluorescent lamps are evaluated according to the fluorescent lamp ballast standard UL 935.

g) General-purpose ventilated transformers or general-purpose non-ventilated transformers (except for composite filled or exposed core types) ), evaluated according to the standard UL 1561 for dry-type general-purpose and power transformers.
