battery charger do ul certification, choose which standard?

SRF 2024-10-14 10:39

UL 62368 is the UL certification standard for high-tech products, including power supplies, computers, printers, displays and other products. Many customers who do high-tech products are also designing battery chargers because the product design principle is the same. Many customers will mistakenly think that battery chargers can naturally be based on UL 62368 this standard is used for UL certification, but it is not necessarily true. Next, Anke Jie will briefly interpret this kind of certification.

Power Products UL Standard classification

UL standard classification, the same is the power supply, according to the scope of use of products to correspond to different standards, such UL 8750 corresponding is the power supply of LED products, UL 1310 corresponds to the plug-type Class 2 power supply, UL 1012 corresponds to the non-Class 2 power supply, UL 60730 corresponds to the power supply of household appliances, etc.

UL Standard Classification of Charger Products

similarly, the charger is the same. If it is less than 100W, the standard for charging lithium batteries or lead-acid batteries is UL 1310;

if it is more than 100W, the standard for charging lithium batteries or lead-acid batteries is UL 1012; If it is a charger for EV electric vehicles, UL 2202 can be done;

if it is to assist the bicycle charging charger, you can do UL 2849; if it is to charge high-tech products, you can do UL 62368.

It can be seen that the products that charge lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries, UL 62368 the standard is not appropriate, unless the customer declares that the battery is used to charge high-tech products, UL 62368 can be used for UL certification.

But in this case, it will limit the use of products, is not a good choice.

What is the better choice?

In view of the above situation, the better choice is to know that the charger is to charge the battery, but in doing when UL certified there is no need to specify the load type of the product. If you follow the general power supply, the optional UL standard will be much wider.

Unless this product is clearly used for one purpose only, then we can specify the specific UL standard according to the use, such as EV charger, and only charge EV, then just do UL 2202 directly.
