In order to reduce the cost and time of enterprise product certification and match the national standards with IEC international standards, the South Korea Institute of Technology and Standards issued a notice of 2023-0027 on March 20, releasing the new standard KC 62619 for energy storage batteries.
Compared to older KC 62619
compared with the 2019 version of KC 62619, the changes in the new version mainly include the following aspects:
• Definition of terms and alignment with international standards;
the scope of application is expanded, the mobile energy storage equipment is included in the control, and it is more clearly pointed out that the portable outdoor energy storage power supply is also within the scope; the scope of application is revised to more than 500Wh and less than 300kWh;
• Section 5.6.2 supplements the requirements for battery system design;
• Added requirements for system locks;
• Increase EMC requirements;
• Added thermal runaway test procedure triggered by laser.
Compared with the international standard IEC 62619:2022
Section | content |
1 | [Clear scope of application]-Delete the example of KS C IEC62619 use (narrow the scope of the target) |
1 | KC 62619: The 2022 clarifies the scope of application and adds examples to the standard, such as mobile/stationary energy storage batteries, power supplies for camping, and mobile electric car chargers. |
-Increase the lower limit of the range: for energy storage power supplies with rated capacity above 500Wh and below 300kWh.
-added note: does not apply to cars, aircraft, railways, and ships and other legal provisions of the safety management of the battery
6.2 | the IEC standard requires R for the number of samples (R is 1 or more); In the new KC 62619, 3 samples are required for each test of the battery core and 1 sample is required for the battery system. |
9 | added EMC considerations |
schedule E | the content of Annex E is added to the new KC 62619: Functional safety test method for battery management system below 5kWh. |
Date of implementation
the announcement is effective from the date of publication, and the old KC 62619 standard will be repealed one year after the effective date of the announcement.
