On April 14, 2023, the U.S. ANSI and the Canadian SCC issued new Safety Standard for Mobile Energy Storage Power Supply ANSI/CAN/UL 2743:2023. The new version of the standard in the old version of UL 2743:2018 and UL 2743:2020 on the basis of an important revision, contains a series of standard optimization.
The main differences between the old and new versions are as follows:
■ 1. New increase in the definition of mobile, the introduction of the concept of 18kg. For non-fixed installation equipment, the equipment weighs less than 18kg, or provides easy-to-move equipment, which can be classified as mobile energy storage products.
■ 2. For AC outlets other than 15A ungrounded outlets, additional evaluation criteria (including UL 1012-Overcurrent Protection Requirements for AC Outlets and other relevant requirements).
■ 3. Added functional grounding requirements (including structural and identification requirements) for double insulation isolation products.
■ 4. The vehicle charging voltage range is extended to support 24V rated input (the old standard only supports 12V input).
■ 5. For lithium batteries and lead-acid batteries, add multiple standard-compliant options (for example, for lithium batteries, it can be satisfied. UL 62133, UL 1642, UL 1973, UL 2580 any one of these criteria is sufficient).
■ 6. Improve the leakage current test method, and supplement the test requirements for dangerous voltage to safe voltage port (e. g. between inverter AC port and low voltage terminal).
■ 7. For evaluation of critical safety circuits, add component single failure as an alternative to UL 60730-1.
■ 8. For lithium battery packs greater than 1kWh, increase the single cell failure test requirements (refer to UL 1973 single cell thermal diffusion test method).
■ 9. Optimize the test method of the emergency start output and clearly identify the requirements (current and duration).
■ 10. Revised the drop test requirements to specify a 0.9m drop test for products under 18kg.
