What is the basis of UL certification tracking inspection?

Introduction

as an organic part of UL certification, in order to ensure that UL's listed and approved products continue to meet UL's standards and requirements, UL has developed a "tracking inspection" system. "Follow-up inspection" is by UL sent around the world on-site representatives to the local factory production site for UL products tracking inspection. Its purpose is to check the production process, inspection process and products of the factory against UL's standards and tracking inspection rules to ensure that the production process, inspection process and products of the manufacturer always meet the requirements of UL.

Basis of follow-up inspection

after the on-site representative arrives at the factory, it is mainly based on "Tracking Inspection Details" "Tracking Inspection Details" "Tracking Inspection Details" inspection is carried out. "Tracking Inspection Rules" is compiled by UL Engineering Department after testing the samples submitted for inspection, this document includes a comprehensive description of the product, including photos, instructions, etc. It also specifies various tests that manufacturing plants often have to do during production, some of which require 100 percent of the product, such as pressure tests. Some inspections can be carried out on a sample basis. At the same time, it also stipulates the test items that the on-site representative must spot check during the on-site inspection of the factory. The site representative shall judge whether the inspection results are satisfactory according to the details and regulations of such tests.

Tracking inspection product classification

the review is divided first review and quarterly review, the cost of the first review is relatively higher, UL's tracking inspection is divided class R and Class L. Class L services are primarily used products related to life safety, such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fire doors and some products with considerable output, such as electrical equipment, wires and circuit breakers. For products belonging to Class L, the manufacturer must directly order the label to UL on the product. Class R services are primarily used electrical equipment, such as electric fans, televisions, hair dryers, ovens and other products that are usually produced by corresponding assembly lines.

charging standard

UL's follow-up inspection fee consists of two major parts, one is the annual service fee, and the other is the tracking inspection fee.. Its annual service fee is $580 in January of each year, UL will send the bill to the factory, which is the same for Class R and Class L products. If the tracking inspection rules require samples to be sent to the United States for testing, UL will also charge the factory for testing.

For tracking inspection costs, there is a big difference between Class R and Class L products:

Class R Services

for Class R services, the tracking inspection fee is directly related to the number of inspections. If the inspector visits the factory, the factory is producing or stocking UL products, the cost of each inspection is $280; otherwise, it is $93.5; if the number of inspections is increased due to product rework, the inspection is also calculated at $93.5. The cost of inspection is not directly related to the complexity of the product and the time required for the inspector to be in the factory. If it is a special inspection, it is generally determined by the time spent in the factory and the rate of inspection at that time. The rate will be notified to the factory when UL decides to implement the special inspection. The bill is usually sent within one month of the inspection.

Class L Services

for class L service, UL charges for tracking inspection fees through labels. When a factory applies to UL for the purchase of a label, the price of the label includes two costs: the cost of the label and the service fee (I. e., UL's follow-up inspection fee). Therefore, UL on-site representatives in the inspection of the factory, UL no longer to the factory charges, unless it is a large number of product re-inspection or UL on the factory implementation of special inspection.

Whether it is R class or L class service, UL ask the factory to send the bill as soon as possible after receiving it, otherwise, when the time limit exceeds 3 months, UL will clear your file. If you still don't understand the cost, you can contact the local inspection center or contact UL accounting department.
