1 Electric vehicle power battery UL2580 certification-range
1.1 These requirements cover electrical energy storage components, such as battery packs and combined battery pack-electrochemical capacitor components and the sub-components/modules that make up these components, for electric vehicles as defined in this standard.
1.2 This standard evaluates the ability of electrical energy storage components to safely withstand simulated abuse conditions and prevent personnel from being exposed to any danger due to abuse. The standard evaluates electrical energy storage components and modules based on the charging and discharging parameters specified by the manufacturer at the specified temperature. It does not evaluate the interaction of the assembly with other control systems within the vehicle.
1.3 This standard does not evaluate the performance or reliability of these devices.
1.4 This standard does not include evaluation requirements for light-duty electric vehicle batteries, such as electric assisted bicycles, wheelchairs, electric scooters and similar equipment defined in UL / ULC 2271.
2 Electric vehicle power battery UL2580 certification-components
2.1 Except as described 2.2, the components of the products covered by this standard shall meet the requirements of that component. See Annex A for a list of standards covering components commonly used in products covered by this standard. Components shall be CSA or UL compliant, applicable to the country where the product is used.
2.2 components do not need to meet the following specific requirements:
a) Involving features or characteristics that are not required for the application of components in products covered by this standard; or
b) is superseded by the requirements in this standard.
