On April 14, 2023, ANSI of the United States and SCC of Canada issued the safety standard ANSI/CAN/UL 2743:2023 for mobile energy storage power supplies.
This new version is an important revision of the previous versions of UL2743:2018 and UL2743:2020, which includes a series of standard optimizations.
The concept of 18kg is introduced to supplement the definition of movable equipment. For non-fixed installation equipment, the equipment weight is less than 18kg, or equipment that is easy to move can be classified as mobile energy storage products.
For AC sockets other than 15A grounded sockets, additional evaluation of their compliance standards is required, including the UL1012 standard, which specifies the overcurrent protection requirements for AC sockets and other related requirements.
The voltage range of the on-board charger has been extended to support rated input voltages in the 24V range (earlier versions of the standard only supported 12V input voltages).
It is required to strengthen the grounding of double insulation isolation products, including structure and identification.
Multiple standard options are added for lithium and lead-acid batteries (e. g., for lithium batteries, any standard of UL 1642, UL UL62133, UL 1973, UL 2580 may be satisfied).
Improve the leakage current test method and supplement the test requirements for hazardous voltage to safe voltage ports (e. g. between AC port and low voltage port of inverter).
As an alternative to UL60730-1, evaluate critical safety circuits and add individual component failures.
For more than 1kWh lithium battery pack, increase the single cell failure test requirements (refer to UL1973 single cell thermal diffusion test method).
Modify the drop test requirements to specify the 0.9m drop test for products under 18kg.
Optimize the sudden start output test method and clearly identify the requirements (current and duration).
