UL 2580 Certification

compliance with the UL2580 standard is not mandatory for automotive OEMs.

To the extent that the first life cycle meets this standard, it will greatly reduce the time and effort required for the second life cycle ladder utilization integration.

UL1973 certification

lithium batteries for electric vehicles from echelon manufacturers must first meet the UL1973 standard before entering the fixed installation.

If the OEM module conforms to the UL 2580 standard, it can almost seamlessly comply with the standard.

UL 1974 certification

evaluate the steps to utilize the manufacturer's facilities and processes; batteries must further comply with relevant battery safety standards, such as UL 1973

UL9540 certification

most installation specifications require the ESS to comply with UL9540 when using recycled batteries.

Reuse Battery-NFPA 855:

3.3.22 Reused batteries refer to used batteries used in energy storage systems (ESS) after analysis and reconfiguration.

9.2.4.2 Batteries used in applications such as electric vehicles must be reused in ESS applications by a company that meets UL 1974 standards, and the system must meet the requirements of 4.6.1, otherwise they shall not be used.

4.6.1 ESS shall be listed according to UL 9540 standards, unless otherwise exempted.

A.9.2.4.2 Batteries treated only by this procedure are not listed and must be evaluated separately according to safety standards such as UL 1973.

Reuse and reconfigure equipment: International Fire Code 2024(IFC)

article 1207.3.9: Equipment and materials shall be reused or reassembled in accordance with Article 104.8.1.

Batteries that have been used in other applications such as electric vehicle drives shall not be used in Chapter 12 applications without the approval of fire officials and the disposal of UL 1974 standard battery refurbishment companies.

UL2580 and UL1973 certification

benefits for echelon users
the structural requirements of UL 2580 are similar to those of UL 1973.
Increased confidence that the battery structure of electric vehicles meets ESS requirements.
Reduce time to market by 70% to 80%.

UL1973

·UL 1973, the Standard for Batteries for Use inStationary and Motive Auxiliary PowerApplications

• Allows the use of echelon utilization cells and batteries from manufacturers certified by UL 1974.

· Ladder-utilized cells must pass the applicable tests of UL 1973.

· Battery systems using echelon cells must pass the applicable tests of UL 1973:

·Electrical, mechanical, and environmental tests.

·Tolerance to internal cell failure test.

Battery systems using step-use batteries shall be marked

“Repurposed" or “Second Life" and “UL 1974 ”.

OEM why choose UL2580, UL1973?

Advantages for original equipment manufacturers:

UL2580 provides comprehensive evaluation requirements for electric vehicle batteries, and improves the safety of batteries by obtaining safety certification from nationally recognized testing laboratories (NRTL);

many requirements of UL2580 are consistent with or more stringent than those of UL1973, laying the foundation for the echelon utilization of electric vehicle batteries under UL1973 and opening up a path of echelon utilization.
